Golden Lady – Jose Feliciano – Foncett/Ikome Hardbody Samba Version

This is an amazing track, it always has me samba-ing around the house. It is an old Jose Feliciano cover with a touch of Frankie Foncett and Giovanni Ikome magic. Definitely a sub throbber – rating = 9, and a misheard song lyric to boot!

Stevie Wonder

Jose Feliciano is a virtuoso guitarist, singer and composer from Puerto Rico who has been blind since birth, and he gained fame in the 60’s and 70’s. Golden Lady is originally a Stevie Wonder song released in 1973 on the classic Innervisions album, which also introduced the world to the hugely significant tracks Higher Ground, Living for the City and Don’t You Worry Bout a Thing. Jose Feliciano covered Golden Lady in 1974.

I like both the Stevie and the Jose versions, but feel that the Frankie/Giovanni mix has such magic and vibrancy that they have really added value to the song and brought it right up to date.

I have to award this a 10 out of 10 because I love it so much.

At 3:13 Jose is supposed to sing “looking at your hands” but he definitely changed it to “looking at your ass” – how cheeky of him.

Here are the lyrics:

Looking in your eyes
Kind of heaven eyes
Closing both my eyes
Waiting for surprise

To see the heaven in your eyes is not so far
Cause I’m not afraid to try and go it
To know the love and the beauty never known before
I’ll leave it up to you to show it
Take me right away

Looking at your hands
Hands can understand
Waiting for the chance
Just to hold your hand
A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow
Into a lovely smile that’s blooming
And it’s so clear to me that here’s a dream come true
There’s no way that I’ll be losing

And golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Golden lady, golden lady
I’d like to go there
Take me right away

A touch of rain and sunshine made the flower grow
Into a lovely smile that’s blooming
And it’s so clear to me that you’re my dream come true
There’s no way that I’ll be losing
