Next up is So Lonely from Dom Navarra, with Nottingham’s Monique Henry providing dreamy angelic vocals. Celebrated New York producer Jihad Muhammad brings a fabulous remix with gorgeous piano provided by Vincent Jeffries. This is a standout track on the album, absolutely mesmerizingly beautiful, and Monique’s emotional vocals really connect with the listener on a deep level.

The vibe changes again with track number eight – Unpredictable Love from South African producer RoneeDeep (aka Matimba Rodney Baloyi) and lyrics from Ammo Moses. Deep and Afro vibes blended with a soulful backdrop grace this heartfelt song about the uncertainty of love.

Diamond (DJ Spen & Michele Chiavarini Remix) – Hanlei, Rhemi

Diamond is a track that was originally released in 2015 by Rhemi with Hanlei on the vocals. Hanlei are the dynamic duo of Hannah Khemoh and Aleysha Lei – two ladies who are so intertwined that they could almost be twins, They are the very best of friends with so much in common that they are definitely sisters in spirit, known for their strong and soulful impassioned vocals. Rhemi – Ziggy Funk and Neil Pierce have produced numerous club classics since they joined forces in 2013, and are one of the most sought after producer and DJ duos in the business.

The original track is very special to partygoers of the London Soulful House scene. As well as being a brilliant track, Diamond became the anthem of the late and very much loved Owen Money – the everpresent smiling and dancing ‘snakehips’ and photographer who lost his battle with lung cancer in 2016. His legacy is so strong that a Nyumba Deep party took place for his 50th birthday last month where many of the London DJs, artists and dance floor regulars paid tribute to his memory. Every year at the Notting Hill Carnival, the KCC Sound System display a large photo of Owen in Wornington Rd where Owen would often be found grooving away to the KCC carnival vibe.

It’s one of those tracks that can’t be messed with unless you’re going to do a very very good job of it, and who better to give that mission to, than two of the most talented and respected musicians and producers – DJ Spen and Michele Chiavarini. What is there that Spen hasn’t done? This man has travelled the world thrilling dancefloors with his inventive sets, skilful production and numerous classic remixes. Synonymous with the Basement Boys and Jasper Street Company, this Baltimore legend has worked with everybody in the business and continues to be a name in everybody’s music collection. Michele Chiavarini is an Italian (and honorary Englishman), who has won the hearts of many a fan with his refined and expertly constituted productions along with his classical musical talent. He plays piano, guitar, violin, bass, trumpet and vibraphone, has worked on numerous tv and film scores and soundtracks, and is definitely a contemporary maestro. Michele writes songs, arranges, composes, produces, remixes, and is the man of the moment for all things musical. Together, Michele and Spen are a force to be reckoned with.

Their take on Diamond is very different from the original but still retains the integral soulful essence. It’s now jazzy and laid back, it has a lounge vibe, but still the four to the floor upbeat bouncy backdrop that has you tapping your feet from the first few bars. The keys and vocals are as smooth as silk, and I like to think that Owen would have approved of this version. The message is still there – it’s all about dealing with the pressures of life and using those experiences to build character and resilience. Most listeners can identify personally with the lyrics and they really resonate deep in the heart and soul. Owen’s song will shine brilliantly forever – Diamond encourages us all to sparkle through every moment – and Spen and Michele have polished the diamond beautifully with this release.

It epitomises everything that the dance crowd like to do and Mike City’s signature lyrics take the listener right to the middle of the dance floor, helping them to get lost in the rich and soulful vibe.

Help Me (Michele Chiavarini & Dj Spen remix) – Beat Rivals, Lifford

Formerly mentored by Karl ‘TuffEnuff’ Brown, Beat Rivals are a hard working and inventive production duo from London. KrazyK and Soulshy came up with the name Beat Rivals due to their tendency to create individual interpretations of their work as well as collaborative releases, and this friendly competitive approach to their productions results in numerous contrasting and complementary elements to every release package.

Beat Rivals have previously worked with Lifford on ‘(Gotta Be) Free’ and ‘If I Could’, and have collaborated with several polished performers including Xavier, Flexie Muiso, Natasha Watts, and Tony Lindsay.

Lifford shot to fame when he featured on Artful Dodger’s ‘It’s all about the Stragglers’ album in 2000, as the vocalist on two tracks – ‘Something’ and the top ten hit ‘Please Don’t Turn Me On’.  Since then he has released and written songs covering a variety of genres which makes him one of the most versatile performers on the circuit. He has worked with Rhemi, The Checkup, Wipe The Needle, Circle of Funk, Mark Radford, Luciano Giola, Teebone, Glenn Gregory, Matt Jam Lamont, and Brian Keys Tharme to name a few. One of the most in demand artists in London, Lifford regularly performs live as part of a group and a duo, entertaining crowds throughout the UK.

This release is a stunning five track remix package, a collaboration between classically trained and inventive composer Michele Chiavarini and legendary Baltimore House specialist DJ Spen.

The lyrics of Help Me are about reaching out for assistance when you need it, and the importance of physical and emotional support from your friends and family. Lifford’s lyrics are generally based on experiences which are very personal to him, and he has previously spoken of a long term battle with depression. His rich and honey-toned voice delivers the vocals with passion and poignancy, making this a song which will resonate with anybody who has travelled a lost and lonely path only to find comfort in warm and loving friendships.

Beat Rivals original production had a classic jazz-funk feel, with its jazz piano and laid back bass, reminiscent of an early eighties Shakatak vibe, featuring Brian Keys Tharme on keys and Gene Perez on bass guitar.

The DJ Spen and Michele Chiavarini remixes bring a melange of numerous sweet and soulful influences. With an orchestral backdrop, divine strings, luscious keys and an overall sound that is evocative of a carefree Aswad vibe, you can’t help but move your feet to this incredible track.  In the true spirit of House Music togetherness, Help Me is a track that can encourage us all to comfort each other through hard times, and will bring joy to the heart as it reminds us to freely offer our love and support to those who need it.
