The Last Time – Sterling Void ft. Cleveland P. Jones
Sterling Void aka Duane Pelt is one of Chicago’s original House music artists, having produced House classic It’s Alright back in 1987 with Marshall Jefferson and Paris Brightledge on vocals. With such a long pedigree he has produced several artists over the years, and hits have included Let Loose The Light, Vibes, Rize, Serve It Up, Don’t Wanna Go and Runaway Girl to name a few.
Cleveland P. Jones is a vocalist from South Carolina, whose singing gift was discovered in church. His love of music grew, and he studied music and theatre at Morehouse College, Atlanta and Berklee College in Boston. He has a unique soulful jazzy sound, that came to real prominence in 2013 with his debut album Ace of Hearts. He has opened for Chaka Khan, and his original music has featured in the movies. The future looks very bright for this man who sings every note with his heart and soul.
This release is on Slapped Up Soul, a label which showcases a variety of artists from talented musicians on the soulful dance music scene. Past releases include contributions from Lifford Shillingford, Robert Owens, Dawn Tallman, Circle of Funk , Taliwa, Wipe The Needle, Gary Bardouille, True2Life, An-Tonic, Louise Golbey and Mr V, and the label continues to go from strength to strength with every new track.
The lyrics of “The Last Time” are about living every day as if it’s your last and making the most of every moment. Cleveland delivers the vocals with his trademark passionate soulful sound, really bringing the audience into the carefree mindset that by dancing your troubles away, you can forget the pressures of life and let the music take over. With the original mix, Sterling Void’s production gives the song a timeless classic feel with its grand piano focus and four to the floor beat.
From the UK’s North East, Frank Star brings a more chilled and jazzy flavour to the track, featuring a bumping bassline and percussion touches that will have the listener foot tapping from the opening bars, while Chicago House maestro Joe Smooth takes us to soulful heaven with his enchanting piano focused rendition.
Talented UK DJ and producer Distant People (aka Joey Silvero) mixes it up with a warm gospel vibe, keeping the classic feel, but giving his mix a late night groove sensation that will melt the hearts of the club faithful.
This track brings together a wealth of talent and flair to give four distinct but complementary vibes that will enhance any DJ set this season. Enchanted by the message from Sterling Void and Cleveland P. Jones, we can let the music play, and dance the night away like it’s the last time – even though we know deep inside that we’ll be hearing this track for many years to come.
